<div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW11000686 BCX0">Reimagining our Downtown&rsquo;s Future While so much has changed in the past year, one thing remained the same in our community - the innate desire to gather in our well-loved public spaces. As we transition through the pandemic, the Town has begun the process of updating the Downtown Master Plan. The Town has partnered with urban design firm SWA, to reimagine how we might use some of the public spaces within our downtown to provide essential connection, interaction and engagement. </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW11000686 BCX0">Building upon the strong framework of Danville&rsquo;s small-town charm and to further enhance its village-like character, the aim is to create activated public spaces that are visually coordinated and balance the need for adequate public parking, drainage facilities, accessibility to all businesses and essential services such as trash pick-up. </div><p style='margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:6.0pt;margin-left:0in;line-height:150%;font-size:15px;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;text-align:justify;background:white;vertical-align:baseline;'>In early 2022, the Town and its urban design team will be conducting outreach and seeking input on how each component of the community &ndash; from its businesses to its residents &ndash; envision how it wishes to live, work and play within its treasured downtown.

The process applies to a wide range and complexity of proposals &ndash; from simple land use permits to commercial development and housing development. The actual timeline could be relatively short or rather extensive, depending on its nature and complexity.Housing ProposalsSpecific to housing development applications, the State of California has significantly limited local development review authority. The California state legislature cites &#39;restrictive zoning, land use, and burdensome permitting policies at the local and state level&rsquo; as the core reason for a statewide housing crisis. Consequently, the speed with which a housing development is reviewed, the maximum number of public hearings that can be held, and the limited scope of local review &ndash; are all relatively new and directly attributable to new state law.The private development projects listed on this page represent those of greatest community interest. Subscribe for project updates.Recent state legislation and State-mandated components of the Town&rsquo;s <a href="https://danvilletowntalks.org/housingelement" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Housing Element</a> set the requirements to accommodate a greater number of multifamily housing units. Interested residents are encouraged to learn more about new state requirements and engage directly with our state legislators.

Private Land Development

The Diablo Road Trail project is a significant undertaking to build a paved 8-foot-wide pathway along the south side of Diablo Road. It is a crucial missing link that would connect west to east Danville for non-vehicular travel.

On July 6, the Town Council approved Danville’s first-ever Townwide Bicycle Master Plan.

Diablo Vista Park is one of Danville&rsquo;s five beloved community parks. Residents often refer to this park as &ldquo;snake park&rdquo; for the distinguishing serpent feature in the children&rsquo;s playground although it was originally designed to be a dragon (fun fact). It is accessible from both Crow Canyon Road along its western frontage and along Tassajara Ranch Drive along its northern frontages and set against the backdrop of open space and West Alamo Creek along its eastern boundary.This capital improvement project involves two integrated components:1. Renovation of the existing children&rsquo;s play areas; and 2. Incorporation of a multi-sport skate park, adjacent to the play areas along the eastern (creek facing) edge of the park.At its completion, the integrated recreational space will be able to accommodate a wide range of ages, abilities, and unstructured play. The overarching goal is to create a public use for essential community connection and interaction.Background Play area renovations are a routine part of the Town&rsquo;s 5-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) efforts. Unique to this renovation is the addition of a multi-sport skate feature, a direct outcome of the 2017 Parks, Recreation and Arts Strategic Plan that looked at a broad spectrum of community needs. The chosen park location is the result of a feasibility analysis and extensive feedback from Danville residents and facility users during a public process that spanned over two years, from late 2017 to late 2019. Diablo Vista Park Renovation

BackgroundIn 2017, the Town adopted an update to its Parks Recreation &amp; Arts Strategic Plan ( &ldquo;Strategic Plan&rdquo;) after substantial community input including intercept events, online questionnaires, stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions. One of the strategic directions that emerged was a recommendation to expand recreational options in Danville, including pickleball. Given growing local demand for pickleball courts, the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission (&ldquo;Commission&rdquo;) determined that pickleball was a Strategic Plan implementation priority. Phase 1: Court ConversationsOver the course of two public meetings in early 2021, the Commission considered options to accommodate pickleball courts and elected to convert one tennis court into an exclusive pickleball court at Osage Station Park <a href="https://danvilletowntalks.org/17792/widgets/56427/documents/37088" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Parks Commission Report and Summary of Actions - January 13, 2021</a><a href="https://danvilletowntalks.org/17792/widgets/56427/documents/37089" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Parks Commission Report and Summary of Actions - February 10, 2021</a>Tennis Court Conversion to Pickleball Courts:One tennis court at Osage Station Park converted to two pickleball courts. Completed April 2021.<div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW237951362 BCX0">Phase 2: Court Additions </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW237951362 BCX0">Given the continuing demand for pickleball courts, a preliminary site analysis was performed at all Town-owned parks to determine the feasibility of adding new courts (rather than converting tennis or basketball courts due to the already limited inventory). At the conclusion of the November 30 meeting, the Commission directed Town staff to conduct an initial study under the California Environmental Quality Act, including retaining an acoustical consultant to examine the potential impacts of a pickleball project with a maximum of 8 pickleball courts and 4 tennis courts.</div></div>
