Construction Progress on Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail Project

Construction is moving along for the Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail Project (CIP No. C-055). Construction activity began in early March 2026 focused on tree removal and grading. Work along the trail has experienced some delays due to environmental compliance measures implemented for nesting birds and utility conflicts in the area. Town staff secured a permit extension from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), enabling all remaining tree removal work to be completed as of June 1, 2026. Extensive grading on the east side of the project has taken place with adjustments being made to accommodate existing utilities. Grading work will be continuing in this area.
The next major phase of work, which will start around June 15, will include soldier pile wall construction along the western portion of the trail adjacent to the creek. Wall construction will require ongoing traffic controls on Diablo Road, including alternating one-way traffic and occasional short-term full stops for the movement of construction equipment and materials on and off the work site. Temporary adjustments of the roadway alignment will also be necessary for this phase of work. Continuous updates will be provided on message boards and local traffic advisories.
Wall and trail construction is anticipated to be completed in October.
